Hi Levelwind, I had a look at other images taken from both Navcams on the same day and I can't any similar items, it may be an imaging artifact. The image was taken on the 25th October and I think Ison was closest to Mars on 01 October so I am not sure if it would have been that size in the sky (would have been amazing to see if it was). Pity nothing around Mars was watching it !

Interesting find Levelwind, I will check the dates and see if it is possible.

In the meantime another mechanical failure that means we do not get to check n ISON

The Balloon Rapid Response for ISON (BRRISON) payload suffered an anomaly following launch Sept. 28 from the Columbia Scientific Balloon Facility in Fort Sumner, N.M., preventing the payload from collecting mission data.

Approximately two and a half hours after BRRISON's launch, the 0.8-meter telescope on the gondola returned to a stowed position too rapidly, driving the telescope past a stow latch. The telescope was unable to be redeployed despite numerous attempts by the BRRISON team from the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory, which built BRRISON for NASA.

An Interim Response Team will assess the BRRISON payload during recovery operations later today. BRRISON was launched to study the rare sun-grazing Oort Cloud Comet ISON and other objects with both infrared and ultraviolet/visible light instruments.

Could this be Ison?  Pretty bright for a day light shot.

Sounds more like PMS or Menopause to me, and trust me I should know. wink

Nice to know you are still keeping an eye on us OBrien

OBrien says:
Of course, sweetie, who else? "Who do you suggest we ask to put NASA back on line?" Surely a public appeal to Oprah, Bono, Tom Hanks (although he's probably in on everything after his "collaboration" with NASA in his movies) would force the powers that be. Letters to the editor. Appeals directly to Obama. Coming from the international community, I'm sure they'll carry greater weight. -- -- -- Poor Xenon, though! Thinking I'm a response from automate sooper sekrit agency software. Poor deluded baby! Plus, he's got so much wrong trying to figure me out from my IP address. If he only knew! Maybe someday I'll tell him. But I'm just having too much fun. -- -- -- Oh, and I seriously doubt we will EVER be on the same page. But one can always hold out hope that you'll stop clinging to nonsensical fairy stories one of these days.

If ISON remains whole, and does not get brighter can we surmise it may not be what we are being told. The reports all seem to be pointing towards it not doing what was expected it should do...

As for comet ISON, it seems to still be intact and not showing any debris field (although none volatile objects might not show up unless seen through infra red wavelengths), even so we have found that some of the recent data has been censured and edited (more so in released imagery), so nothing can be ruled out at the moment.

Do you have any comments?
Today is the day when Comet C/2012-S1 (Comet "ISON") makes its closest approach to Mars, a hair-splitting 0.07 AU. As it looms large in the martian sky, it is scheduled to be photographed by the Mars rovers and orbiting satellites such as Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter. C/2012-S1 has been forecast to be brighter than the full moon when it comes close to Earth and surprisingly is now being observed by ground astronomers to be glowing an eerie green color. Unusual to say the least, and some might speculate that it is not at all natural. So is it a coincidence that today the NASA web site has been totally shut down? No information is being distributed to the public by NASA at all. What are they seeing in that comet that they're so afraid to release any images? Or do they now know something more about ISON's course and a possible future collision with Earth? Now is the time to demand that the NASA site be restored and allow the public to see unencumbered the data that we paid for!

I am not sure it was O'Brien, to me it was more like an automated response one sometimes see on other anomaly forums, and as he is posting from the Boulder Colorado IT university this could well be a psi ops program(er), I always said he had access to a huge data base, and as all government agencies where shut down this could well be an out of office automated post to accounts they visit, or of cause it could be that O'B is having a mid life crisis.

As for comet ISON, it seems to still be intact and not showing any debris field (although none volatile objects might not show up unless seen through infra red wavelengths), even so we have found that some of the recent data has been censured and edited (more so in released imagery), so nothing can be ruled out at the moment.

goggog, perhaps the last people leaving the building forgot to turn off the propoganda machine. So images are still being uploaded that were processed a long time ago no

I am told that staff are still there driving the rovers. Again...if you are....please look up, specifically look up at Phobos !

I watch. The site works and pictures are updated. But the comet isn't present. Maybe it is processed still?

What's on my mind ? Obama claims he will not give in to an 'extremist section of a political party' so America shuts down. What the ..... Who is actually running the country ? And NASA is closed when we really need the rovers and MRO to look up and around at Comet Ison to see what is happening and if it is behaving erratically as is being claimed, we are blind in the sky. How can a government close ? We pretty much live with a non-functioning government in my country where basic service delivery such as water, electricity, basic health services and roads are becoming a major issue, but a FIRST WORLD country like the USA ???? I am sure their services are still operating even though the government is closed, lucky them ! And if anyone is still driving the rovers, please look up....
