Hi qmantoo, maybe right.

Guns are often not just guns also cameras and this could be both guns and cameras but so what. I've drawn some lines
to make the environment more easily understandable.

I see what you mean. It does look like the tops are held on by some kind of vegatation.

I thought this looked like some kind of root ball.

You can even see something green growing here.

It's on the top center part of the original crop left of the camera.

OK, another interpretation for this camera - a martian weapon. We have them captured before and we often see the round holes in the rocks where they are placed . I think it far more likely that they are weapons (Mars, God of war, etc) Plus, dont forget that we have never been shown images of Spirit after it has died, so I do strongly suspect that Spirit is no more and has been dismantled.

I linked the weapons threads only a few weeks ago in another post.
As far as I am concerned, this is a REALLY good image of the weapon (excellent job in spotting it) and I will add it and a link to our other threads.

Oh.. about the root ball. Yes it could well be, but dont forget that some of the Martians are snake-like beings so could be we are being shown a conglomeration of those.

Erosion

Surface vegetation binds the soil surface and creates a blockade against the gravity. An example of this can be seen in the accompanying photo. It is difficult to conceal physical activity on photographs that are handled in deceptive purposes. Please see also the soft curves of the surface.
