Sure, I learned from J.P. Skipper. After reading and looking at what he was saying I started to see it more and more. The smearing is the easiest to see going all the way back to the original Clemintine images. Now they have fixed those and they are getting a lot more tricky with thier cover ups. Blowing up the image really helps. I will check out that thread maybe I can learn a thing or two also. Sure is a lot of fun looking at pictures of mars from my bedroom. What a day and age we live in.
Thanks fruitnut. Do you see what I mean, something is moving. Can you do that same trick with the photos unsharpened? I've been tring to find another shot of this spot from sols before and after with no luck so far. One thing that's for sure is what ever is on that hill must be good, they smear it out in every image.
Level, could you contribute a little, so you can tell people how to realize the tampering of the images. I see you are good at it. There is a thread Chandre Called watcher and frutty share techniques.
It's important so people can apply enhancing techniques when they realize the picture has been tampered, and rule out others which they think might be just ok.

Ok this is probably a little out there even for you folks, but I swear there is a guy ducking behind a rock in these two photos taken on the same sol with the same nav cam with the same smeared hills. If you load both photos one over the other and toggle back and forth you not only see his head going up and down but you can see his knee poke out when he's down. I really appreciate this site and all the feedback. Here is a link to all nav cam shots on sol 1041 http://marsrovers.jpl.nasa.gov/gallery/all/spirit_n1041.html
You can see in this photo taken on the same day with the same nav cam that the tracks look fine. But notice the heavy tampering on the hills and all over the pic for that matter. Is the day that the wheel broke? And why did it break if it is? Something happened or they would'nt have to smudge so much.
Here's the link; http://marsrovers.jpl.nasa.gov/gallery/all/2/n/1041/2N218780656EFFAS81P0700L0M1.JPG, another from the set with the heavy smudging. It could be that Spirits wheels were messing up at this time, I just think that something happened there. Why would they have to smeer so much of the sand around these tracks? And right where the tracks end?
Watcher gmantoo timewarp goggog iceman chandre and a long etc . how about joining efforts and techniques to find feats not apparent in the images? this would perhaps give us a better understanding of the landscape.
Here is my two cents. Supersharpened topmost image. See the mounds where a bird like figure is observing, and new features appearing inside the tracks area. -- Frutty
But if what you say is true, and these pictures are being taken by HiRISE, then it would have to be at a very oblique angle to get some of the perspectives we are seeing. I can understand that the things that we think are small would be large if this were the case. I may be wrong, but I don't see how this kind of thing would be possible.
Start another thread with your theory and draw us a diagram of what you think is going on. That would be really helpful for poor old men like me who cannot understand complicated things !
It does look as if there are other tracks there, but we need O'Brien to help us to understand what we are seeing. He has a better handle on the technicals of the Rovers. I wonder if he is still around...?
Although Spirit's had a couple of bad wheels for awhile, resulting in tracks everywhere it goes, those footprints are definitely something to research further. Do you have the link to the original?
I don;t know I've seen some ICEMAN's examples of tracks on moistened sand on dry sand etc .. but these tracks don't add up to me no matter how hard I try.
A new thing is conspicuous to these photographs (additional to the customary smudging/tampering) the skies are being cut clean !
-- My theory is all these pictures are taken by hirise. If they are taken from a satellite no sky will appear so they have to fake the skies. I also believe that the purpose of showing the rover overlayed in some of the pics is for a our sense of proportions to lose grip. Hence anomalies seem to be of microscopic proportions, when in fact they are gigantic.
Check out all the smudge tampering around these messed up tracks. I suspect there were some footprints. It looks like something drug the rover for a while. It was on relatively flat land. The entire series of pictures from sol 1041 up to these nav cam shots from 1051. They're hiding something on hill in background also. The same thing is going on right now with the latest opportunity pics.
