Point taken TW, and I for one do not mind being needled or reminded to up my game. Just bear in mind that we Mods do this for the love of the game, and it's not an easy task dealing with all the different personalities, cultures and languages present...so go easy on us and cut us some slack every once in a while....but don't stop reminding all of us to up the ante !

I agree that Skippers guestbook is being abused and it does make me angry, after all Skipper and the guestbook are the reason many of us are here. Once upon a time a lot of interesting and constructive dialogue took place there. Nowadays a lot of it happens here which trolls find a more prickly target. They should !

Criticism can be constructive, personal attacks and ridicule are not.

How do we know for sure that Skipper is not already interacting with us ? If you are reading this Skipper, you know how welcome you are here under any name wink

Oh, same goes to a vulgar-free OBrien under any other name hopefully smelling sweeterbiggrin

TW, have a nice, relaxing Mars/Moon-free break and see you after the holidays !

My hat off to you Chandre...  At least your trying. O'brien is an interesting case and I've read a lot of his posts.  His irritations are interesting. Part of his voice is the publics voice.  I think he is an interesting character whom has been given the Oxygen of distrust. I understand and sympathize. But your posting this here may just start something interesting for O'brien. If anyone listens to him there maybe a change in attitude. You dont have to agree with him. theres some ability in him. Unfortunately its covered in skeptical pooly cloaked sarcasm.

As for my harsh words with Xenon.... theres also a method in my madness. Just afew words that needed saying to maybe sttart some kind of dialog between Xenon and O'Brien.  If you feel that whats been going on within the guest book is healthy, without any kind of intervention, then I have to humbly accept your opoinion. But I feel its spiralling out of control. Someone had to say something... quickly and sternly. Gets the old grey matter working and certain responsibilities highlighted. i will be away soon but these next few weeks im posting my thoughts and churning through some very old images. Also im hoping Skipper will at some point step in and help u guys here. start interracting with the group.  Its critical. I promised to push hard and Chandre admin please keep me straight when u feel im out of line. I will not take it personally... promise!
Silence is only golden to those whom are deaf.
Cheers

Xenon, The effort behind the words is interesting. Your begrudging effort to your one and only post is... sorry funny and gives an air of irritation... GOOD! Whatever it takes to get you to deal with posters like O'Brien. You still live on those old stats lol... You know I could hand ur ass to u on a plate with those numbers but thats not the question here. The stats say absolutely nothing. We are talking about evolving and understanding. Developing some kind of people management base. Don't you get whats happening here? I hope O'Brien's reading this as I think he too needs to try a slightly different tack. As for you anonymity, thats a strange line??? Am I asking for your name? Your Address? You throw up so many red herrings its bewildering. We all have a life outside here. Thats not in question? And of course the old chestnut.... The TRUTH. Im not getting into an ideological argument here as this isnt whats in question. But if you want to test your beliefs, open a thread in AA and I will join you and relish the moment. O'Brien has something to bring to the table. His method of delivery can be a little hard to chew but there's method in the madness. Interestingly there's a thread in AA dealing with just this problem... Maybe you should take a look? I'm not going to tell you what to do Im flagging a problem (again) that just continues its perpetual dance. Don't you think its time to stop it? As for your cause Xenon. What exactly has that produced in all these years?? Bannings, suspicion, poor imaging analysis, good investigators giving AA a wide birth, a vast amount of good images buried under an autocratic system that relies mostly on the hard work of Skipper to keep it alive. Thats the "TRUTH!" So as my post has pointed out. There are good people around you. Maybe its time to learn how to extract whatever help you can. They are tricky individuals to deal with. I know but thats the art of managing a community, isnt it? Talk to him!!!! Not AT him!!!!

Xenon says:
TW, just this once I will reply to your reasoning to the comments of my original post, Alien Anomalies was opened up to allow visitors to Mr Skippers guest book to post and discuss anomalous evidence in a safe and free environment, as a result AA now has over 120,000 visitors who return each month, most of them like visitors to this guest book do not take part but often pass on links to members posts... As for you claiming I am an armchair planetary procrastinator, you are entitled to your opinion even though you have no knowledge of who I am or the work I do (like everyone else I am entitled to anonymity), but I can tell you few have the commitment to disclosure that I have, AA was never intended to have bells and whistles, and although we call for disclosure we leave it to individuals to create their own path in calling for the truth, experience has shown that having a single figure head shouting for the collective has gained our cause nothing, so my reasoning is that the community collective as a whole calling for the truth to be disclosed will eventually bring us to our goal (21st century thinking ?)feel free to help out if you care to.... I have no control over the fact that O'Brien rants and raves at this guest book, and I have no intention to create a soap opera in replying to him, the fact he tries to hijack visitors comments with such "diatribe" speaks volumes as to the person he is, so I will leave it at that.

Xenon... You brought this on your head my friend... heres a prime example of 2 profiles that maybe able to drag Allen Anomalies into the 21st century... I understand O'Briens animosity. But i also understand Manners focus on tone... You preside over this with silence. Skipper you should step in and start to try to mend the damage. I have witnessed abject nonsense in AA and still Im here. Why? Hope. I feel at some point Skipper will realize that AA needs him as he needs AA. Im sorry xenon but you've proven urself more of an armchair planetary procrastinator. Focus on planetary.. this is not a personal inditement just a true reflection on ur inability to manage the forum. Chandre cannot do it herself. Do not hide from what you do not understand, embrace it. Egos have grown over the dyeing embers of this guest book. the lack of questions and any kind of enlightening conversation is pretty clear. Now we are faced with pissing contests that are so destructive its bordering on embarrassing. O'Briens posts kinda slap the guest book awake though the tone has become more exasperated over the months for understandable reasons. Skipper , take the reigns of ur guest book and fight it back under control. Or at least start using your dedicated group and help the few lost members there. I'd hate to see this whole venture dossapear into the backwaters of data/ Cheers

Manner says:
O'Brien: No, I'm not going to tell you what or who I am, but I'm going to tell you that I've been to the Moon, that's why I'm so boring to you.

OBrien says:
Manner, I can tell that you're a true devotee of Skipperology! You make up a "fact" that agrees with your preconceived notion of a subject (I defy you to find a single instance of me using vulgarity) and from that premise you conclude a non sequitur that doesn't follow from it in the least (even if I *did* use vulgarity, that doesn't negate the fact that I have designed and built hardware that has gone to Mars. Three times.) If you'd like to engage in a oneupsmanship battle over credentials, would you mind telling me how many science post-graduate degrees you hold, how long you've worked building remote sensing instruments for planetary science, and how much of your work has been to Earth-orbit and beyond? I'll wait.

Manner says:
OBrien, stop this nonsense about your technical ability. Your choice of words and vulgarity, pointing in the opposite direction.

OBrien says:
Unless, of course, you dare to question the status quo and the preconceived dogma that runs rampant there. If you actually *know* something about the subject matter at hand, have worked for decades building planetary orbiters and imaging systems, present material that comes from a position of actual knowledge rather than whimsical and ludicrous speculation, and show that virtually all of what Mr. Skipper assumes and presumes is demonstrably false ... then you'll find your welcome is short-lived. Visit for a laugh, but rarely for the truth.

This was my reply, it does not want to post there but I thought it was important that members see it.

It's been a long, hard two years for all of us and we need to remember that neither Xenon, myself or the other mods at AA are able to manage the forum full time. This is a hobby for us, funded by members and Xenon (mainly), not our source of income and therefor needs to be prioritised as such. Sadly, the real world comes first and often we just do not have time to be on the forum constantly so we often play tag. When we are on we are trying to guide new members in the basics, share finds, encourage excellence and sometimes play hardball when members are not following the codes required. It's a thankless job. We have really wonderful members who are finding wonderful anomalies all by themselves, most are inspired by Skipper but the only footsteps they are following of his is the passion to reveal what they find. Opposition, even vitriolic like O'Brien, can be good but sometimes it just irritates the living daylights out of you. We have yet to see O'Brien open his own forum where HE posts his theories and then steps back and lets us take postshots at him for a while. We've been crossing swords with O'Brien and his predecessers for ages and I do not think either side has budged one inch in all that time. I have learnt more about what is wrong with our presentation of the images from pre-school children than I have from O'Brien and his kin.So, while I understand the points being made here, you need to understand that AA is for FUN, we are not trying to change the world, we have some good work and we are trying to manage and showcase it as best we can with our limited time and resources.
