Listed here is the sequence of changes I made to the original false colour image.

Downloaded false colour view.

Adjustments made (Red +07; Green +57; Blue +75)

Adjustment to Brightness and contrast (-37; -15)

Gamma correction reduced by 6 points.

The program used to make the adjustments was Paint Shop Pro v6.0.

If you have the program, try it out for yourself using the values specified above.

No other adjustments were made.

I have produced this animation to show how the colours can be corrected by simple adjustment of RGB values, brightness, contrast and gamma correction.

Compare the corrected version in the animation with the original shown above and the colours are very close.

This process shows that the colour changes made originally by JPL to the Viking images can be undone.

The images captured by Curiosity have a reddish-coloured hue which I suspect has been applied to visually confuse the observer.

I do not think the images transferred to Earth from the mastcam on the MSL have this annoying hue.
