It isnt a label. I used unsharp mask and edge and saw something beneath it. It's joined onto it by pins. Looking deeper I saw that what I thought is a label is actually a row of openings and there's a distinct opening on the top. Beside the one on the top is a lead that's been draped in front of it. On the original RAW image Curiosity has arranged a hand shape with a pointed rock cupped beside it with the point pointing away from where it has placed this object in the shadow and if you follow towards the top right (behind the hand shape) there is a lot of shiny metal. I think the technology is at least as good as ours.

Metal in top right is on this video
gmantoo:
I appreciate what you say about the pixels. I have posted several videos on YouTube that show exactly how I have enhanced the image without detracting from it. I always decompose the colour before sharpening and replace afterwards. I don't add anything. I only want the truth. Where I use fade, and very rarely edge, I say so and I always include the source file on my videos in the description and on my blog posts.
Macten:
Missed posting source in first post this thread due to my excitement over this
p.s. the images I've played with and posted about the Sun are in the Just For Fun section of this website and if I'd put anything into a Curiosity image that's where it would be, not in a section that's for serious study.

So, I have found the sign I mentioned before. It is posted as part of [url=http://www.abovetopsecret.com/forum/thread968973/pg1]this thread on ATS[url] which was really about shelters and one in particular. The sign appeared in the same picture as the shelter which is why it is posted in that thread. To give you some idea of the clearity of this sign I will post a couple of enlargements here as thumbnails.
There are loads of other images taken by Spirit of this site 22 on Sol 75.I know this is going over the top with all these links, but in case anyone wants to follow up to try and get a better view of it.
I could be wrong, but I think if you turn off the pixel-smoothing rather than smoothing the pixels, you will find that the rock you think may be a label, probably is not one.
Although, having said all that, I have found something which looks to me like a sign on Mars too, so I may very well be wrong about this one. I will see if I can find the sign and post it for comparison to yours.
We should all probably turn pixel-smoothing off. (pixel-smoothing is where the software examines pixels each side and smooths the colours/greyscales so that you do not get blocky pixel looking images when you are looking at pictures which are just on the edge of breaking up. It makes the picture appear sharper and more defined, but actually, it is a modification of the original data.)
Good photo Sapa but you should post a link to the image so It can be verified. That is just standard procedure here ok?
That said there are some other interesting features in this pic. The ones I find interesting are the ones with regular angles and flat surfaces. There is one with a lot of small holes in it that seems like coral? or maybe just porous rock.
