no I was being sarcastic, of course I don't believe the sun was directly above this location causing the shadows to cast the way they are in this , as you pointed out, doctored photo.
Lightsoff. You are also 'assuming' that if the sun was directly above this site, then the photos are not doctored ... in some way or another. Please elucidate the reasoning and/or basis of your premise and enlighten all of us here. It should make an interesting read. --Morbius
mobius, the first image where you point out the shadows being reversed - this is made up of 3 images and is a panorama. The images were taken at different times of the day so the sun will be at different angles. Take a look at the top to see where each picture starts and ends.
There are probably other photos taken at this site or nearby which may give other perspectives. Try the link in my signature and type in the photo name.

Lightsoff, hello, and do not intend to intrude on your interpretation, but I hope you may be interested in a few observations and opinions here. To begin, the pic is quite obfuscated, that is , faintly smeared and tampered with. These heavier areas are marked on the attached as such. Another error evident is the reversed shadows ( also marked ). There is a multiplicity of simular ( helmut?) shaped rocks present as well. These are, in my opinion, ' placed ' there, as the shadows seem to dark as well. These ' rocks ' are peculiar in, again .. my opinion, not being sedimentary by nature, that is, layed down in and by .. water. Their smoothness I believe is from being worked on by someone .. at some remote time. In effect, these , I believe, were once part of a huge temple complex that was quickly and violently destroyed. These then, are pieces of the Temple Complex itself, and some number of great statues that were part of the site. I consider this possible in particular from one of the ruined carved-rocks, which I have labeled ' Smashed Colossus Head ', lying on its side in the sands. The attached should in fact be self-explanatory of these few observations made on this puzzling picture you have presented. Now that you are armed with some few observations of note, when approaching a possible picture and its subject matter of interest, you should be making some very exciting and perceptive interpretations. The presentation of these I will look forward to indeed! -Morbius
