I agree with qmantoo that the images we are presented with for the technology that is available leave a lot to be desired. This is the reason why I posted the shadow-enhanced image shown above.  This method of image manipulation does not destroy any of original detail but serves to 'bring out' detail that cannot normally be seen.

Viewing the image as you see it in your browser will not reveal very much of the real detail. Try using the zoom capability in your browser if you are using IE8 (bottom right-hand corner) otherwise it is best to download the image and load into a graphics program to zoom in. When the image is magnified to 200% you should start to see more of the detail.

Will members please let me know if you find the detail confusing. If so, I will work on a method to try and improve the detailing. As a matter of interest, none of the images I post contain jpeg compression artifacts as I remove them from the original downloaded image.

If someones presents themselves as scientific thinking should thy show any scientific capabilities. There is not one that pretends to be something that gives us evidence, but the one that is something. If someone here wants to say something please say it explicitly.

qmantoo, "unfortunately" I do not know what you're talking about.

Iceman we need to use the best images we can find. Are these from the pds repository?

I agree with you that these images are terrible, but people would probably say that they have been compressed and this is a normal jpeg compression algorithm which is applied throughout the photo.

I am not saying that you are wrong at all because I get frustrated at the images. But we have pointed to this kind of thing before and the scientific types of people here on the forum, say that we are using poor quality images to begin with.

They do not admit that even the PDS gifs from the MER are total rubbish too.

I have come to the conclusion that we are unlikely to get at the real truth unless someone 'releases' one or more originals from their prison inside NASA somewhere.

I do not think it is milled timber we are seeing, but a rock with ridges on it.

During the time I have spent investigating one of the images Levelwind posted above I have developed a process which allows for the enhancement of the NavCam and PanCam images. The process also tends to sharpen an image without any noticeable degradation to the content or the quality.

Have a look at the enhanced image posted below. I think NASA have a lot to answer to if the detail showing in this particular image is anything to go by.

Do you see any recognizable features and if so, how many?

I think the light is not much pronounced as compared to the original picture, it's probably the reason. However, I assume that the visual effect of light on the atmosphere has been erased.

I can't believe they didn't try covering that light?

Examining timber, I found evidence of what is clearly an attempt of NASA to cover the unwanted truth. This time we have a proven example of one of the technical effects that NASA use to cover actual data, an establishment of a form of deception and it is widely used on pictures from NASA. Notice how Soar cell panel is covered with a graphic texture that is used to mask unwanted items.

Note that this method is used throughout this picture

I think everything circled in red could be wood and how about that bright light in this one from Oppy's pan cam 123, eight sol later than the first post.

Ok now I think I'm seeing lumber in almost every one of these.  At the top of this one it looks like a board that has been broken in half.  The wood looks so different than the surrounding pavers.  You can see the grain running through it.

Another piece of wood, or maybe some bark from sol 123 not far from the timbers.

I thought this looked like an old tree that has fallen over.  Same set, Oppy nav cam 115 from the Meridiani Planum. http://marsrovers.jpl.nasa.gov/gallery/all/1/n/115/1N138404940EFF2800P1986L0M1.HTML

I had to brighten up this one a little.  I think this is another timber from Oppy nav cam 116.   http://marsrovers.jpl.nasa.gov/gallery/all/1/n/116/1N138496404EFF2809P1986R0M1.HTML

Something is going on in this area.  Because of Iceman I started looking closer at these pics.  Even my wife (who is the sceptic in the family) thought these looked like pavers.  I was looking at  this one that Oppy rolled over and upheaved when I saw some image tampering.  Almost reminds me of the stuff that Gogog finds.  Whatever it is, the rover rolled right over it.

In this one they have smeared it out completely.  Both of these are crops from the first two pictures in my original post.  Here are the links in order > http://marsrovers.jpl.nasa.gov/gallery/all/1/n/115/1N138388241EFF2700P1994R0M1.HTML,

With the supplied clips from Level Wind's post I mark a few interesting things that indicate intellectual activities, I am perfectly aware that people can endlessly beat his head with rock.

Here is another timber looking thing from Oppy's nav cam sol116.  I also forgot to mention all the heavy tampering going on in the background.  The top half of all the photos are smeared,  114 through 119.  You can also see the muddy sand that the rover went through also.

I like this one.  Looks like a timber, even milled.  From Oppy's nav cam sol115.  And what's with the shiny thing in the background?  It shows up in all the pictures from this set.

oppy nav cam 115 b.jpg

Oppy even rolls over the thing.  Lots of blueberries too.  It looks like the blueberries have been washed aside by streams of water.

oppy nav cam 115.jpg

oppy press release endurance d cropped.jpg 2.jpgHere is one I cropped from the press release image.  Down below you can still see the bright oject in the background.  This is the orignal press release photo.

oppy press release endurance c.jpg

This is one from nav cam sol 116.  Here you can see how wet the ground is and were the water has wash the blueberries aside.  Look at the tracks the rover leaves.  You can also see it in sol 119 too.
