i realize gov control is not a real good thing.

who knows? maybe the private sector will make a breakthrough in some tech.

right now, going up there on civilian craft is just a super carnival ride.

the good stuff is going to the space station for 20mil$

branson just opened a 2 mile runway, i guess for his spaceships.

i respect that guy, putting his money where his mouth is.

and doing it!

when the price of a ticket get's down to 13mil for the space station i will get 2 for my anniversary. (wife likes to travel)

unless something extrordinary happens tomorrow, i will never go to the moon or mars or geti prime.

sigh..

ya, i don't understand unless the gov is way ahead of the private sector.

i really don't think it is like the wright bros and civil aviation. (space travel, that is)

the alien series comes to mind, with the "company" and avatar, which i didn't see the government being the bad guy.

or countless sci-fi books, what else we have to go on besides history and invasive species?

imagine haliburton getting the jump on a planet or BP or monsanto.

i think the gov should have strict regs on who can do what on another world. lol!

call me old fashioned.

space can be explored by private companies, sure but where are the cops?

it is a hard question qman.

Interesting series of articles from 2009 and onwards about Spaceship One, Two and the future of private space travel. Some other articles report on the recent testing of the new equivalent to the shuttle and to the mother ship which launches it. Follow the links at the base of the page.

The prices are not that much either. I know they are not actually going into full Earth orbit, but will initially be just weightless flights. Other 'products' will follow on from there as they get more experience of space travel.

Do you really think the governments of the world will allow them to get into space(and what people may see) and from there, fly to the Moon? (and all that means for disclosure)

Perhaps, I hope so. Particularly if they offer the governemnt alternative ways to get into space and to take stuff up there, maybe even provide an alternative way to provide help, should it be needed in the future. It would not look very good for the government to say "We dont have a spacecraft ready at the moment to mount a rescue mission, but we will have one in 10 days time". Other companies doing space travel could provide alternatives in case of emergencies perhaps.

It really depends if the gain is worth allowing them to develop space technology in competition with the Government or perhaps they are developing different technology altogether. Providing a 'public' face of space travel that is more accessible and seemingly 'independent' to the government route.

Maybe they will be part of an alternative plan to distribute the disclosure information and bring us all to the idea of aliens existing - who knows?
