Interesting series of articles from 2009 and onwards about Spaceship One, Two and the future of private space travel. Some other articles report on the recent testing of the new equivalent to the shuttle and to the mother ship which launches it. Follow the links at the base of the page.
The prices are not that much either. I know they are not actually going into full Earth orbit, but will initially be just weightless flights. Other 'products' will follow on from there as they get more experience of space travel.
Do you really think the governments of the world will allow them to get into space(and what people may see) and from there, fly to the Moon? (and all that means for disclosure)
Perhaps, I hope so. Particularly if they offer the governemnt alternative ways to get into space and to take stuff up there, maybe even provide an alternative way to provide help, should it be needed in the future. It would not look very good for the government to say "We dont have a spacecraft ready at the moment to mount a rescue mission, but we will have one in 10 days time". Other companies doing space travel could provide alternatives in case of emergencies perhaps.
It really depends if the gain is worth allowing them to develop space technology in competition with the Government or perhaps they are developing different technology altogether. Providing a 'public' face of space travel that is more accessible and seemingly 'independent' to the government route.
Maybe they will be part of an alternative plan to distribute the disclosure information and bring us all to the idea of aliens existing - who knows?
