I had a NASA Link Showing exactly this picture but they changed the entire collection to debris sources. You are right it is something more below and also above on the right rim of the canal.
There are one thing we can do more of it's going mote through old stuff we have because we grow of experience and knowledge and can there fore see more and say about it.
Iceman, I see what you are pointing at and it does appear to be a structure. There is another strange looking structure just below it as well. I have been trying to find this image on the 'official' site but I cannot ?
I may well be wrong, but the arrow above appears to point to part of the left wall of the rille which has sunlight on it. Is there a structure there that I am missing? I think maybe at this magnification, it is difficult to determine what is compression and what is actually there.
I suspect what you are pointing to is on the base of the rille and looks like they could be buildings etc, but as I say, these might be to do with the compression. It would be good to get other photographs of the same area and compare them.
Probably because a lot of programs use approximations to perform image manipulation. Each pixel has a value that tells the browser what colour to show. As an example 0=black (as black as you can get) and 255=white (as pure white as you can get)
If a pixel in the middle of the page has a value of 126 maybe an image program would deem this nearer to 0 than to 255(which technically it is) and if you have asked the image program to do this(by cutting out the mid-tones), then you will see what the program "thinks" is the best outcome. In this example 126 - which should be a mid-tone grey will be shown as a black by the program.
This is a very simple example and things are more complicated than this. I hope I have explained it so that you can see where some of the 'artifacts' come from when doing image manipulation.
Hi, I would be interested in an explanation, why these patterns remain, after the middletones and the shadows have been removed from the image ( sky ) by using a graphic program.
Hi qmantoo, No it's not. Download the picture and examine the canal very, very closely (it is working water on the Moon millions tons of it, though we do not see it)
