I think these are such strange shapes because they are melted something. I can imagine that if something was burning and crashing, then there would be many melted things falling off as it exploded or came down and I think this is what we see in this image. Things half-melted showing the underlying original structure but the oddly-shaped and roundedness or spikey-bits as plastic would be if melted.
There are often round holes in rocks which make them seem like faces but I believe (possibly wrongly) that some are weapons holes and the Martians can poke their weapons out of these holes and at the Rover - which is what they do sometimes. It is just strange to me that there are so many almost perfectly circular holes in some of these rocks and so I guess these holes must have some function.
Carved eyes or nostril-holes would probably not go all the way into a rock like these do. Of course we just dont know and can only speculate about this. Your guesses are as good as mine are.
Morbius, you are right. There is a lot more to this.
If you look closely - through some very strange sculpture of a pig - turtle - and chimp - all with mouths wide open, you can see some structural parts holding this bizarre thing together:
Yellow shows the internal structure, now exposed:
The pig head, turtle-like head, and chimp head are marked below - arrows point at each mouth:
Yes Marsrocks, and my point was to learn to observe the unique pinkish tint signature in these pictures. However, as you note, there are indeed reasonably certain indications of many structural elements present as well. Your ' bizarre thing ' in example, is probably a light reconnaissance vehicle, while to the right is observed the form or shape of a tracked armoured-vehicle covered in the usual ' sand/blur ' nonsense The attached should be fairly self explanatory on this subject.
Hope this may be of some use in understanding the pics we examine here often. Cheers / -M
Marsrocks, the attached should demonstrate the obfuscation problem encountered in this pic. Basically, the heavy off-yellow has been layered to obscure the darker ( real ) pic. However, if you work with the pinkish-darker/original .. there is still some very interesting and useful detail available. / -M
Marsrocks - I get access denied xml page with this link although it may be because I am in a funny country. Normally I only get problems with planetry data org and then sometimes it is OK. Can you check the link again for me please?
If you look closely, you can barely make out a tiny circle in each of the corners of the triangle on our right. It must be British to have the roundels on the wing tips! Bit like a Spitfire then?
I just put up a delta wing shaped form on youtube that resembles the one put up by doney:
Video description:
This object seems to be a combination of a thin, flat, smooth, triangle shape mounted on the top of another object that seems to be in the shape of a can.
It was photographed on sol 3 by Curiosity rover in Gale crater.
If you look closely, you can barely make out a tiny circle in each of the corners of the triangle on our right.
There are a collection of "Delta wing" - triangular shaped objects at Alien Anomalies forum:
As far as I know seaweed is a plant. What do you think it is then? Do you mean coral? Because that is made by a mollusc-type thing and the coral is the calcium(?) deposited around the outside I believe.
Remember that image of the long-armed beings (I'll make my second attempt to attribute a name here, how about lowcrawlers?)? Just by the second lowcrawler is a strangely shaped "rock" that has a groove and is apparently pointed (from the given angle, it looks like a heart). Is it possible that is another delta-wing too?
And by the way, sponges are 100% animals. They just have some fungus-like, plant-like traits. Just like seaweed - it isn't a plant. It isn't even closely related to plants. But terrestrial plants could not survive underwater completely submerged. It appears that instead of plants underwater, you get organisms that look like plants or are hard-to-tell.

There is nearly always a dip or groove in the centre of the trailing edge of the delta wing. Possibly rather like our hang-gliders or moths but they appear to be fairly stationary and maybe dont move about much?
Although I haven't looked at the forum's observations in detail, I seem to be getting the idea that these are shells of some kind of squishy creature. That would explain the bilateral symmetry (a plant doesn't need bilateral symmetry, this is why we don't have bilaterally symmetric plants).
The rock-like texture of it seems to go against the idea of a vehicle, but that's just my opinion.

Yes, I take that back. They are very strange indeed, but do not appear to be alive. Although a lifeform would explain why they are all over the place, it could not explain their very sharp edges.

There are quite a few of these dotted around the forum. In the past we have called them delta wing things and there are probably 2 or 3 other threads about them. here and here and very good view here
I do not think they are animals/birds because they appear to be able to be hoisted up and down or moved in and out from various habitation places see the last link above. So, I think they are craft for getting about Mars rather like we would have cars.
From now on, I'll call it a Martian jetdarter, based upon the creature invented by Wayne Barlowe for the book Expedition and the spin-off documentary "Alien Planet", to which it is virtually identical in appearance.

You're making comparisons to Earth organisms. A flying creature with that body shape would be useful in a high-density environment, but Mars and Earth have atmospheres that are nowhere near dense enough for a creature like that to fly. If it is flying, it is either using some biological form of jet propulsion or, much as I don't want to say this, is telekinetic.

Doney, I think the rock preparing to take off is in fact a mutated bird. I believe there was an atomic catastrophe on Mars surface. The species that used to live on Mars either left the planet or mutated. Here you can see the rock is really preparing for taking off.
Chandre LOL my eyes are hurting now What I meant in my previous post was to examine the 3D anaglyph and see if it still looked artificial to you. Because to me it does look natural, although that triangular rock's "standing up" position is strange
LOL, I'm sorry I must get in the habit of outlining the things I see. It's like counters post of the negroidal head , I just could not see what he was talking about until it was highlighted..... we all need to remember what is obvious to us may not be to others.....
Here we go, please excuse the lines, having problems with my pointer...
Red is the structure, yellow are the mechanics (not so good in my image but you can compare with the original) There are two bolts on the plate and its bigger but I've only highlighted one.
Very interesting image doney. I have reworked slightly to show what I have picked up.
I very much doubt that this is a rock. If you look closely the top end is carefully worked and seems to have a bolt attached to something that is holding it elevated in this position. There is also what appears to be a base under it with some bolts and the cracked triangular object resting against the base seems to have been part of the structure.
To the right of the base at 3 o'clock is what looks like the remnant of a metal machine with a bolted plate and some pipes (seen more clearly in your image as mine is a bit dark). Very interesting indeed
http://marsrovers.jpl.nasa.gov/gallery/all/2/n/1763/2N282881994EFFAZ25P1918R0M1.JPG Even if this is just a rock, I'm not sure how it's "standing up".This is the picture just to the left of the photo in my previous posting about ocean creatures. There are lots of interesting items in both pictures.
