Same general area; Site 131 spirit pancam, set 2401:

http://starbrite.jpl.nasa.gov/pds-explor....pancam/site0131

On this one a circular band is completed on the top of the head by distant rocks.

Leaning rock nearby:

There must be a large portion of this rock hidden underground to hold it in this posture:

Spirit site 131 (sol 1312 to 1359) navcam 1907 set:

http://starbrite.jpl.nasa.gov/pds-explorer/dsidnode.jsp?nodename=IMAGING&datasetid=MER2-M-MI-5-MOSAIC-OPS-V1.0&volume=mer2om_0xxx&dir=browse/navcam/site0131

Look at how oddly balanced this stone seems to be (and there are several others nearby just as oddly balanced)"

Spirit pancam, site 131, includes sols 1312 to 1359.

I found enough rights and lefts to create color left and color right images by matching numbers in the pds list to the given number:

The more distant eye that I was perceiving in this one is made of rocks on the ground.

Very interesting, goggog.  The image above is also from the jpeg you linked.

We need qmantoo to help interpret these image numbers from the pds.

All I can tell is that it is from site 131, but it would be great to know the specific sol so I can do  a left-right animation.

Nice find doney.

I think your bird might actually be 2. Seems to be a smaller one immediately below the larger bird. Both are oriented the same way.

As a keen birdwatcher myself, I have to say these would be 2 different species and you would not normally see them sitting side by side like this (well, not on THIS planet anyway!).

I am not able to identify the species; don't think they migrate this far..smile

Excellent find doney smile

Couple of anomalous "rocks" I noticed right away. Well, one of them is actually anything but a rock. It has an opening and one could see the ground behind through it. Impossible to be natural geology, it doesn't look like it at all.

The other one, the so called "head"... just look at the way it sits on the ground..weird stuff

Although I can see some strange things in this photograph, I am not able to see many of the things that you see. I have not downloaded the original yet, but just from the close-ups you have posted, I cannot see them. I am sure the problem is mine, not yours.
