Here I show how the image is treated to produce a different visual angle. The arrows show how the image is stretched
vertically and horizontally shrinked. This is called a fake because it has a false perspective. I made clear to me all the time
how the image was treated, but I followed the line that NASA sets out to highlight what the illusion is actually a primitive.

Sorry iceman but ur wrong here!
Foreground objects obviously move more prominently . Focal background is further away. Angle change will be slighter.  Its all about depth of into. Angles of lens etc.  Nice work but on the wrong path I'm sorry to say. Read up on Vanishing points, perspective and focal plus depth of field tutorials. Theres so much online. You should find something of interest.  The affect you have noticed is simulated in games and websites. Its called Parallax Scrolling ;)

This link should help you. http://psych.hanover.edu/krantz/motionparallax/motionparallax.html
The true term is 'Motion Parallax'.

Motion parallax is a depth cue that results from our motion.  As we move, objects that are closer to us move farther across our field of view than do objects that are in the distance.  The animation below attempts to demonstrate how motion parallax works for driving along the road.  Click on play and see if the depth in the image does not seem greater than when the animation is stopped.  You can stop the animation at any time by clicking on the stop button.

Macten, I see you're a seasoned photographer, or at least have the ability to.

Now I'm going to show in a clear way that the two attached photos do not meet professional standards in terms of reliability.
When you take a photo of a particular subject, appears always the range which is in direct perpendicular lines drawn from the
camera lens except for reflection would be the case for example with use of a mirror.

fake picture1.jpg

Now I'm going to show the approximate, shooting range of the camera with regard to the photographic subject.

fake picture2.jpg

Inspect the background ot the photograph no. 1 and 2.

Looking at these different visual angle of the camera is impossible to expect that the same background could be present. This suggests
that the images are not reliable, rather than mani things that come from the NASA workshop.

if people do not understand how this works, it can put a chair about one meter from a wall and moved to the side, backward
and forward to realize this simple point.

Dear Morbius, I was not commenting on the content of any of the pics because this thread has taken on some very strange tones. I was commenting on the observations that the shadows should have changed in the circled areas and they did not. If there is no perspective change then the pic has been photographed from the same angle and distance.

It is the same pic IMHO however NASA edited it. I am beginning to wonder if anything put out by them is real.

If browser connection does not work (Web Links), is usually enough to copy and paste the URL in the URL browser window.

The interesting point to note is that those appear to be two rocks (not one) with very similar ends that Iceman calls 'ratpigs' because the ends look like pigs snouts. The small Sojourner goes right up close and appears to be photographing in between them. Try this page for images taken by Pathfinder

http://mars.jpl.nasa.gov/MPF/mpf/image-arc.html

I am afraid I do not see the figure, I have tried.... I am moving this post to 'The Strange'.

let's see now ... Macten. Yes , I had noticed this immediately upon viewing , however , there are two basic counterpoints to consider here. We might give Iceman some credit , for at least he went to the trouble of looking , and succeeded in finding , a simular picture .  Again , if a man is photographed with some optical aberration , say his legs appear 6" longer ... does this mean those are not his pants ... or that is not him in the picture ? ' proportions ' then is not the issue here Macten , and as such , the only point you bring out then , is that your point is pointless , and in my opinion , the rest of it must reflect simular such material .  I have no ill will in this at all Macten , and I only wish you would reconsider some   -what these ' views ' may be percieved as by some pretty educated , erudite , and experienced viewers. Something to think about then?                     -Morbius

Sorry about that Levelwind , but am not to good or enthusiatic at tracking down these sites , endless letters , numbers , co-ordinates , etc. Reminds me of my income-tax forms I guess. If I recall however , the Pathfinder Mission was launched in 96 and finally set down on Mars in 97. The main-frame , if you will , from which the pics were taken , then dislodged the small rover called Sojourner . You could go to the Mars-Arounder site , go to the fourth or last R pic on top . load-up and use the bottom buttons for L + R movement . zoom-retract , and Full Screen . That is the source of the pictures presented in the post , and a really neat site with many other views as well . I tried Iceman's link and probably ran into the same 'unavailable' block you encountered. Now the serviceman's left hand is holding a container , possibly a screwdriver-set , but the main tool-belt is as indicated on his waist. There is a squarish-container with what may be an ariel going out , and is visible across his L. shoulder , plus some other items are discernable in his kit. We need remember , this pic ha been heavily worked on and we need be aware of this when trying to make some sense out of it and in picking out some major features and their details as possible. To get through this obfuscation and still present some plausble reconstructions however , in the sharing , is rewarding in itsef. Will be posting the follow-up , Pt. II shortly and hope this may pique your , and other viewers interest even further .                              -Morbius

Don't be so cryptic and ambiguous , then just walk away TW . Say what's on your mind . Wouldn't that be fair , and what the viewer might expect to see?  Also , I had replied to your post ' More detail to an Egyptian Friend ', you may have missed it , and inquired as to just what you make of the many peculiar crystalline structures present in the pic .. any idea ?        -Morbius

Pretty obvious that pic 2 is the same as pic 1 only streched beyond believable proportion.

a different perspective.jpg

 Are these pictures forged ?

From my experiences of photography, I need to point out the following: In the following we see a background and foreground. The Rovers is the foerground and the “rock” is the background. The pictures are taken from different viewpoints in terms of higher positions of the camera. This dynamic position of the camera should cause the foreground which is the Rover in this case to be seen in varying angles to the background behind it if there is a gap between forgrund and background that seems to be with regard to the shape of the background, but as the accompanying pictures show, there is no perspective changing between foreground and background. The same can be said for the shadow of the background with reference to the rocks on the ground.

Was going to say something. Infact I did. Just had to walk away from this.   Just think about what your saying. Any specifics needs some kind of proof!

Ok I see it now.  It looks like he has his tool belt over his left arm.  I couldn't get icemans link to work.  What rover is this and how could they get this shot?  It doesn't look like Spirit, Opportunity, or Curiosity?

OK ICEMAN , perhaps I'm a little over-reactive , and yet , meant no ill will . I've always considered you a good man , and have said so many times , just be a little more temperate or restrained when we're on the air . So , you make me apologize again my friend , and so I do. smile

hello Levelwind ,  I perceive what has prompted you to reply and I thank you sincerely , we are both on the same page . As for the repair man , am attaching an annotated/arrows Vignette ( so the surroundings will not be a distraction ) , and , an untouched close-up so that you and others may compare and apply the first attachments guide-lines ,  and perhaps catch a glimpse of that elusive repair man after all. Let me know of any results obtained .. or not , then we'll go from there .                -Morbius

Morbius, Things are differently uncomfortable. I do not see this porn. I call this visual interpretation. I do not like everything I see
but I do not avoid unpleasant situations. What you think you see here is what children see in wildlife films worldwide.

Hey Morbius, I completely agree about the giving.  It's money well spent, I have enjoyed this sight from the beginning.

I would love to try and see what you are talking about with the repair man.  Is there any way you could post a link to the original and maybe circle or outline the guy?

From the lack of objection ICEMAN , it would appear your depictions are of an acceptable standard to the forum , and might suggest their submission to a porno-site also . Have you at all considered this in visitors viewings as well ??      confuse     -Morbius

In 1997 Rover made a pit-stop beside what appears a large boulder. The pic ( 1 ) is from the Mars-Arounder Site. In the background is the Twin-Peak, the Administration Building, and a sentry-outpost .. all of which have been covered in previous posts. We now come to the main subject here, our Rover, as readily identified in the picture's foreground. It need be noted here that the entire picture, in my opinion, has been heavily obfuscated. Closing in on the Rover ( pic 2 ), the extensive smudging and airbrushing become readily apparent. To continue, we need digress a bit here in order to provide the following report, as it presents an important and plausible background to the Rovers assigned location.

About 3 years ago now, I was listening to CoasttoCoastAM, and this particular show was about anti-gravetics, space-flight, and Mars exploration as well. The show ended with call-ins for listeners to ask questions and present their relative experiences. One of the callers had a most amazing and relevant story to tell. The lady stated, in a clear, confident and no-nonsense voice, that she had been employed by NASA as the Chief Computer Maintenance Specialist. That she was responsible for the continuous and smooth running operation of all the electronics and screens in a large main building. This huge room she worked in had yet another room within, which was in the center of the outer banks of consoles, had glass windows, and was reached be a few sets of steps. This housed the command-center facilities and was staffed by the senior NASA personel. On this particular day she was watching the outside monitors displaying the live coverage of the Rover situation when she observed two shapes approaching the Rover and which became clearer when closer. They were 'like Texaco Men '( servicemen ) with uniforms, tool-belts, and 'something like squeeges in their hands'. At this point she thought she was either halucinating or going insane, but her co-workers and crew had also picked-up on the incredible scene and had stopped working to just gog and stare along with her at what was transpiring. Shortly, the screens went blank, so they scurried over to peak in the windows of the control-center room. Those inside tried to shoo them away, to 'go back to work', and, not doing so, they next put newspapers with scotch-tape on the windows. Now the exact date this was aired is not recalled .. but I remember this particular caller-in very clearly. With near 20 million avid listeners globally however, there is certain to be thousands of tapes out there .. somewhere .. for confirmation.

The relavency, and reliability, of this eye-witness account will soon become apparent as we return to our Rover story here. In pic 2 we can observe the obfuscation present, especially between the boulder and the Rover. This is in fact not a rock or boulder, but a man leaning over to service the vehicle, and is so identifiable in the clarified picture following ( 3 ). There are then a few basic items to note here, and in further detail with pic 4, wherein the obfuscation is cleared, but a lingering glow is still evident around the head, back, and right-arm. Mention of which, the viewer will see it is not the end or part of the 'rock', but is extended between both the Rover's front and the supposed rock. This detachment and transparency are also well seen under the armpit .. which shows the sands behind it. The right-hand is also visible and grasps a screwdriver or tool being positioned near the Rovers right-front support-strut. He seems to have some sort of camaulflage uniform on with some image manipulation present as well. On his waist is the reported tool-belt and accessories. And yes, he is observing the camera and looks like someone you would prefer not to bump into at night outside a bar. Could the NASA employee have been right then, and would this explain the often pristine and dustless pics sent out, of the Rover, as well the strangely prolonged life span of the vehicle?

So, we have seen an interesting and puzzling little story unfolding here, and in Pt.2 soon, and although it was a rather intense effort to assemble all these pieces and put them together into something to present and share on the AA boards, I feel a satisfying and rewarding happiness in the sharing. Here I completely agree with Chandre, and others, that 'I am no longer trying to convince anyone else of what I see .. it is for my own enjoyment, and to share with others.'I consider it a privlege to be able to post, and belonging to AA is more satisfying than to graduate from Yale or Harvard. Here is found the greatest assembly of talented, dedicated and resouceful anomaly researchers on the planet .. barring none. This brings up the final, but main point and reason for this post. Not only to show what we can do in this disipline, but to be appreciative and not take for granite the priviledges and benefits of such a superb venue site as AlienAnomalies certainly is. To wit: A few nights ago I recieved an unexpected letter ..or'eMail' from Mr. Xenon .. he's a higher-up guy who lives in England somewhere. He pleaded, as if on bended knee, and asked for financial help .. not for himself .. but for us! For support of member priviledges we might have been assuming were a birthright or expected. I replied I was ashamed and did not realize this situation .. that he had taken care of us out of his own pocket .. and for some time .. that I would not leave him holding the bag .. it was not right at all. I would transfer $20 each month, and somehow I will . Here is a selfless man, a true gentleman, head of his household, head of his family, head of the table .. who gladly and unselfishly feeds his family members, and visitors alike, and who now pleads for our help. At this point you may say I'm out of order or such, and you can ease or kick me off the site, I don't really care, but I got to get this out of my mind and off my chest .. and I will, because, for some unknown reason, I was deeply hurt by this picture so heartfelt it was .. and is. Now I say to all members, and visitors .. can we enjoy such priviledges, and not be struck by the goodness of the giver, and visitors too, who are intrigued and amazed having learned much from our researches and discoveries?

Please help us then .. all. Give something .. anything, not tomorrow, or when you get around to it. Sit down at the keyboard right now and get those fingers flying. Say, yes Mr. Xenon, I don't have much, but you know what .. I can, and will, sacrifice my extra BurgerKing for the next few days, or that half a pack of smokes. I can give 5 dollars or something .. yes I can. And you know what .. you'll never feel more better for it .. especially as it is Christmass .. and is not this the unspeakable gift from whom we can all learn much about sharing and sacrifice?   sincerely and respectfully     -Morbius
