Here is a close view of the mysterious rock.

Look closely at the sophistication inside the belly of the rock and also at some of the small shapes surrounding the rock object.

Some of these shapes do not look like rocks.

Notice also that the colour composition of the rock itself is completely different to all the other objects on the terrain.

The composition of the rock is interesting, but I am wondering if any other elements were discovered that are not being disclosed.

Three other interesting theories are that it could be from a smoking hole in the ground (does he mean volcanic vent????), ejected from a crater or that it might have tumbled down from a nearby rock outcrop...... Surely if this was the case then there would be evidence of these same type"rocks" scattered around the immediate area, plus other images would show signs of a volcanic vent or recent impact, if it had fallen from a nearby rock outcrop it would be at the base of the outcrop as its shape would not allow it to roll so far away.

The theory that it was thrown up from the rovers wheels is IMHO a very strong probability, however the claim that this is a stone is very misleading as the complexity of its outer and inner exposed structure points to two possibilities of its creation, the first being caused by an unknown crystallization process, the second being an exoskeleton of an unknown life form, looking at the inner "jelly" part of the object shows even more complexity, either way it is obvious that the present face of the object has recently been exposed either by being overturned or broken apart, and the fact that it contains high traces of in sulphur, magnesium, and manganese shows that a complicated chemical reaction has taken place, Is it evidence of "Life"?, maybe it is as present theories speculate that earth was seeded from Mars, but we have to remember Mars is an alien world that has suffered a cataclysmic event and mineralogy or life would of evolved much differently than what we are used to, but having studied biology and geology (and work with minerals) I am drawn to the idea that some sort of biological process has played a part rather than crystallization.

Great find by the way

Well, I wonder if NASA will keep an eye on the anomalous rock to see if it mysteriously disappears like it mysteriously appeared.

I don't really believe the proposal that it was flicked off of one of the rover's wheels, but I suppose it could be possible. Nothing like this has been experienced before.

What is of interest are the shapes that can be observed inside the object. Is it really a misplaced rock or could it be something else?

Maybe it's an unusual form of martian reconnaissance craft. Who knows?

I just googled the 3 ingrediants the scientist stated and they are all plant nutrients that show up in decomposition in fairly high levels.

That took me all of 20 seconds to find that, and I am no scientist.

I saw this as soon as it came out.  I have decided not to speculate too much until the talking heads at Nasa have finished with thier conclusions (lies) .

Flipped like a coin? I suppose anything is possible.

But I doubt it.

( just wait until it explodes)

Interesting part of the story Goggog linked>>>>>>>

“We are as we speak situated with the rover, with its instruments, making measurements on this rock. We’ve taken pictures of both the donut part and the jelly part,” Squyres said. “The jelly part is like nothing we’ve seen before on Mars. It’s very high in sulfur and magnesium and it has twice as much manganese as anything we’ve seen before. I don’t know what any of this means. We’re completely confused, everybody on the team is arguing and fighting. We’re having a wonderful time!”

They’ve named it “Pinnacle Island,” and the team is contemplating a few ideas of why the rock mysteriously showed up.

“One theory is that we somehow flicked it with a wheel,” Squyres said. “We had driven a meter or two away from here and somehow maybe one of the wheels managed spit it out of the ground. That’s the more likely theory.”

Well, AA you are all slipping to have missed this one.

So, what do you all make of this then?

I found this on another site and thought you would love this... No-one knows how it appeared there it seems.

A "jelly doughnut-sized" rock has appeared in front of the Opportunity rover on Mars, and scientists can't figure out where it came from, Discovery News reports. The discovery was revealed by Mars Exploration Rover lead scientist Steve Squyres in a "10 years of roving Mars" keynote at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory last night. "Mars keeps throwing new stuff at us!" he exclaimed, discussing past rover findings, but this time, he meant it literally.
