There are so many 'blocky' structures in the picture that it is hard to tell what should be there and what is a compression artifact. There do appear to be other structures along the shoreline and also blacked out areas merging in with the very dark blue. However, as I said, it is a very poor quality akin to mars or moon photos.

Maybe another Google Earth-type application has better or different pictures?

The structural anomaly as seen in the above images is located at the following.

66 18 02.90 S       100 46 36.78 E

A question arises.......

What is the purpose of the structural anomaly at this particular location?

There does not appear to be any other structures close by and it is not a site of one of the numerous exploration bases.

The other relevant question is...... if the anomaly was not contructed by any of the countries involved in Antarctic exploration, who could have built it and when?

marsrocks, your animation make it look as if the anomaly is in the two different images. If the anomaly is contained in the recent image then the base of it has morphed and changed into a different shape.

I have provided two more views which are more close to the site of the anomaly. The first is Skipper's image, the second is the more recent image.

If any member would like to produce an animation using these two images, would you please make the transition time slower between each image.

Timewarp, the two images are shown from two different angles.  The second one has more clarity than the first.  It may have been updated later on google earth with a higher resolution image.

In the second image the anomaly is not actually missing - it fits in exactly with the landscape.  The biggest change is the color now matches more closely with the color of the landscape at large.  In the first image the slight reddish tint made the anomaly area stand out.

Whilst carrying out some research of my own of Antarctica I thought I would review some of the images as posted in Skipper report #195.

The image below is the 8th image shown in the report and a structural anomaly can be seen (shown arrowed). I have estimated that the anomaly is 50mts in width that has a tower some 50mts in height. Look carefully as the anomaly is dark-colored and tends to blend in with the terrain.

What makes this image interesting is the fact that in the Google Earth current imaging the anomalous structure is missing (see below).
